September 17-19: Landscape Photography Field Workshop at White Sands National Monument

This field photography workshop will feature three days of shooting on location in beautiful White Sands National Monument, near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The workshop will consist of a three-day/two-night field session at White Sands, scheduled to coincide with the park's Hot Air Balloon Invitational, and will include individual critique sessions and field demonstrations. We will photograph landscapes, people, and the hot air balloons. Our base of operations will be Alamogordo. This workshop will be limited to 10 photographers, and is for beginner to intermediate photographers who own a digital SLR (DSLR), although more advance photographers are also welcome. All participants should be familiar with the basic operations of their cameras so as to maximize shooting time while in the field.

 

 

 

Efraín at Work

The cost of this workshop is $175 per person, which includes instruction, individual reviews, field demonstrations and entrance to White Sands. Participants will provide their own lodging, food, and transportation. To register, please mail a completed Registration Form and Liability Release and a check for $175 made payable to Efraín M. Padró, 255 Vuelta Roble, Santa Fe, NM 87501. If you cancel on or after September 3, 2010, I will issue a refund of $125.

October 30-November 3: Puerto Rico Photography Tour

Join me for this custom-designed photo tour of Puerto Rico, The Island of Enchantment. We will be based in Old San Juan and staying at the Hotel Casablanca, a boutique hotel in the heart of the city and within walking distance of many of our subjects. During the tour we will photograph Spanish Colonial architecture, historic forts, plazas, markets, folkloric dancers, and more! Outside San Juan, we will visit the El Yunque Rain Forest, the Fajardo Lighthouse, and Ponce, Puerto Rico's second largest city and home to beautiful Las Delicias Plaza, cathedral and historic firehouse.

The cost of this tour is $1,495 per person/double occupancy. The single supplement is $400. Included in the price of the tour are: five nights at Hotel Casablanca; breakfast daily; picnic lunch at El Yunque; farewell dinner; ground transportation in an air-conditioned van to/from Ponce and El Yunque Rain Forest/Fajardo Lighthouse; photo reviews; field guide and instruction; and entrance fees to El Yunque, the Fajardo Lighthouse (including the reservation-only tour), the San Cristobal and El Morro Forts, and the Le Lo Lai Festival.

There are two spots remaining. The trip is officially a "go", and registration is limited to 8 participants. To reserve one of the last two spots, I will require a check for $400, with the balance due no later than September 30, 2010. Offered through the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque Campus, Department of Continuing Education. To succeed as a visual artist today, you must have an understanding of the legal principles and issues that affect your business. Gain the tools to recognize and address legal problems appropriately. Topics include contract principles, copyright issues, model releases, business formation, censorship and obscenity, anatomy of a lawsuit, determining when you need a lawyer, and more. March 9-13: Getting Your First Book Published

This breakout session, to be held during the 17th Annual Nature Photography Summit in McAllen, Texas, as part of the North American Nature Photography Association's annual meeting, is designed to provide photographers with chronological, step-by-step guidance in getting their first book published. The topics to be discussed, which will be illustrated with images from my first book and examples of proposals, will include tips on selecting and researching a topic; designing and executing a "book plan"; finding the right publisher for the book; preparing and submitting a proposal; things to look for in a book contract; dealing with the publisher's editors and other staff; marketing the book, and more!
