I recently did a shoot for New Mexico Journey magazine to commemorate the state’s centennial celebration in 2012. The shoot took place in the historic La Fonda Hotel in Downtown Santa Fe and one of the resulting images will be used for the cover of the magazine’s first issue next year.
Most of you know I am sponsored by Lowepro, the camera bag manufacturer, which means I have access to a variety of bags when going on a shoot. So which bag did I take? The Lowepro x450 Rolling AW Backpack. Here’s why…
Most of the time I favor traditional backpacks to carry
my gear, since I do a lot of walking and hiking when shooting, and backpacks are easy to carry. I tend to carry as small a pack as possible for obvious reasons, but many photographers do like Lowepro’s “Kitchen Sink AW Stealth Bomber” model (I just made that up).
For this particular shoot, however, I needed a pack big enough to carry my gear (basically two bodies, three lenses and a variety of accessories), and one that I could easily roll around an urban environment featuring streets, curbs, and tiled floors. Plus, the x450 also has a hidden set of backpack straps (should you need them), a tripod attachment (ditto), and even a removable laptop sleeve with strap, making it a very vesatile bag.
As expected the bag rolled nicely over the urban terrain (I love the sturdy wheels!), and I actually had room to spare inside. As for the shoot itself, I’ll share more about it on a later post.
Now go out and shoot something.
