The First Photographic Kiss

In the history of the world there have probably been more first kisses than there are stars in the sky. That’s a lot of first kisses. But despite how ordinary first kisses are, they are still new and fresh and exciting to those experiencing them.

So it was that I recently had the opportunity to visit Paris, France, and there I photographed the Eiffel Tower (and Notre Dame, and the Louvre, and…) for the first time. I figured the iconic tower had been photographed many times, but not as many times as there have been first kisses, and certainly it had never been photographed by me. In that sense my photographs were unique.

Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to interpret a subject in a new way, we forget about the pleasure you can get from just pushing that darn button. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.

Now go out and shoot something (for the first time).
